Myrtle A. (Rowe) Picarelli, age 88, of Shamokin, died on Friday evening, March 8, 2019, a resident of the Watsontown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since January.
Myrtle was born on Wednesday, January 14, 1931 in Paxinos, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late George Lester and Jennifer (Wagner) Rowe. Throughout her younger years, Myrtle attended the Shamokin area schools. Although being diagnosed as legally blind in her younger years, that challenge of her life did not inhibit her from raising a family and working outside the home. She was employed for many years by the State of Pennsylvania at the former Laurelton State Village. Myrtle married her beloved husband, Benito A. Picarelli who passed on December 24, 2004 having raised three children together.
Survivors include two sons: John F. Picarelli and wife, Loretta, of Watsontown; and Steve A. Picarelli and wife, Mary, of Mifflinburg; a daughter: Cheryl Balogansky and husband, Jack, of Hazleton; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and also a sister: Nancy Ulrich of Millmont.
