Myron P. "Ecky" Eckroth, age 88, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Thursday evening, July 21, 2022, at Sunset Ridge Healthcare Center in Bloomsburg.
He was born on Thursday, June 28, 1934 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John Wilbur and Elma M. (Smith) Eckroth. Myron graduated from the former Scott Twp. High School in 1952. For many years, Myron was employed by Magee Carpet Company as a weaver until his retirement. He attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, where he was always available to help make doughnuts and hoagies. Myron was a Bloomsburg Fair share holder and he worked for many years at the fair grandstand.
He loved working with the youth of Bloomsburg, serving as both a little league baseball coach (Dillons) and a midget league football coach (Cardinals) for many years. His past players still today talk about how he taught them the fundamentals of baseball and football. He was great with kids. Mutual respect was quite evident. A field was named in his honor at the Bloomsburg Little League complex. It has since been removed because of the flood wall construction. Hopefully, it will be rebuilt with his name on the scoreboard. Myron enjoyed painting pictures and loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Myron was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin C. Eckroth in 1992.
Survivors include his brother, M. Mahlon Eckroth and wife Marie of Bloomsburg, as well as five nieces and four nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Margaret M. McCarty, pastor of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Eckroth family.
Memorial contributions in Myron's name are suggested to: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 101 East 5th St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
