Mildred E. "Betty" Shearer, age 87, of 377 Bissetts Lane, Bloomsburg, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2010 with her children at her side in the Geisinger Medical Center where she was admitted Wednesday. She had been in ill health for two years. She was a resident of her Scott Twp. home since 1955. Betty was born on Thursday, March 2, 1922 in Reyburn, PA a daughter of the late Ira and Nettie McHenry Rood. She was a 1937 graduate of the Shickshinny High School. She was an Avon sales representative for 49 years retiring August 2009. Betty was most commonly known by her employment at Seesholtz Fruit Stand, formerly Yost Farm Market, and at the former Hills Department Store. Betty enjoyed gardening and was an avid crotchetier of afghans. She also enjoyed doing cross stitch. She was a dedicated member of the Ridge St. United Methodist Church where she held numerous offices in the United Methodist Women. Survivors include three children: Larry Baron and wife, Jane, of Huntington Mills; Donna (Baron) Gillaspy of Bloomsburg and Denise ( Shearer) Kressler and husband, Kenneth, of Bloomsburg; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three siblings: Harold Rood and wife, Hope, of Sinking Spring, Donald Rood of Shavertown and Carol Ketchem of Durham, NC. Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ridge St. United Methodist Church, 145 Ridge St.- Almedia, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Robert Eddinger, officiating. Burial will be in Bloomingdale Cemetery, Shickshinny. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Ridge St. U.M. Memorial Fund, 145 Ridge St. Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
