Mary A. Stief, age 94, formerly of 11th St. Bloomsburg, died Saturday, April 4, in Hillspring Assisted Living, Springboro, OH. Mary was a resident of the Dayton, OH area since 2006, prior she was a 30 year resident of Bloomsburg and previous to that she was a 30 year resident of
the Utica, NY area.
Mary was born January 17, 1915 in Bloomsburg a daughter of the late Jacob and Minnie Crawford Yount. She was a 1933 graduate of the Bloomsburg High School and a 1936 graduate of the Ashland State Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she retired as Head Nurse of the Rome Hospital, Rome, NY in 1972. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic parish of Bloomsburg where she was a long time member of the Casey Club. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph P. Stief, on February 25, 1991; a daughter, Mary Jo Stief on October 1, 1961; and 8 siblings: Pearl Bankes, Nora Barber, Emma Gray, Fannie Zettles, Mildred Brown, George Yount, Alice Fisher and Martha Wintersteen. She was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include a daughter: Judy Kozma and husband, Ronald, of Centerville, OH; two grandchildren: Leigh Ann Trame and husband, Stephen, of Springboro, OH and Keith A. Kozma and wife, Barbara, of Dayton, OH and three great granddaughters: Mallory and Alexandra Trame and Victoria Kozma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, Third & Iron Sts., Bloomsburg, with Rev. Patrick A. Devine presiding. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St. A Wake service will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. .
