Mary A. Long, age 89, formerly of Main Street and Railroad Street, Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 a resident of Bloomsburg Health Care Center since May.
Mary was born on Tuesday, March 13, 1923 in Danville, a daughter of the late Melvin C. Diehl, Sr. and Marie A. (Knorr) Smith. Throughout her earlier years, she attended school at the Danville Elementary and the former Scott School, Scott Township. For over 13 years, Mary was employed by Geisinger Medical Center as a Central Supply Clerk, until retiring March 13, 1988. She was a member of the former Fernville Fire Co. Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters: Carole Vial and husband, Philip, of Bloomsburg and Barbara Davis also of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother: James Smith, Jr. of Danville; and sisters: Anna Hunsinger and husband, Harold, of Catawissa and Evelyn Kruger of Danville and an aunt: Phoebe Thomas of Danville. Mary was preceded in death by a brother: Melvin Diehl, Jr. and a sister: Kathryn Phoebe Smith.
The immediate family will gather for a private time at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg. Private graveside services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
