Mary Ruth Eves Crawford peacefully and comfortably began eternal life in heaven at the age of 93 on, April 19, 2020 from the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, PA where she resided for the last six years. Born at home in Southdale, rural Luzerne County, she then resided in Lightstreet, Benton, Millville and Bloomsburg.
Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband, Blaine Carter Eves in August 1972, and then by her husband Amos Crawford in January 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents Eva (Welsh) and William Carey, her brother Raymond Carey, and his wife Mary Pearl.
Mary Ruth graduated from the Millville High School in 1944 where she was proud to be the first female drum major and marched in many area parades. She then studied at the Thompson Business College in Harrisburg. She married "Carter" who had served in the South Pacific during World War II, on June 12, 1948 at the Millville Methodist Church. They made their home in Millville where their daughter, Sherry was born. She worked for many years at Precision Printers in Millville as a typesetter. Mary Ruth married Amos on March 2, 1974 and moved to Millertown and enjoyed hosting family and friends for birthdays and holidays and taking care of their large garden until Amos's death.
Most of all Mary Ruth loved her heavenly Father and enjoyed a personal relationship with him which was very evident in these last several years. She loved her family and friends very much and her life prayer for them was that they would have a personal relationship with him as well. She made it her mission to share the love of Christ with others. She prepared and delivered countless meals to shut ins and those that were grieving loss or recovering from illness. She purchased and delivered hundreds of seasonal and celebratory flowers to individuals often times, just because. She enjoyed dropping in for a visit but "Just for a minute". She took many out for lunch and drove many more for appointments and errands. Perhaps her most enjoyable ministry was that of sending cards. She had a dresser full of cards that she love to pull from and type personalized notes in, thousands of them. Finally, she made countless phone calls to anyone and for any reason she felt necessary. She "kept in touch" and genuinely cared for each person that she served through all of these ways, even continuing the cards and calls as long as she was physically able.
Mary Ruth found greatest joy in being with her family. Going to church and talking about God and His word, holding them in her lap, visits to New Hampshire for Christmas, invasions of her home during Bloomsburg Fair week, trips to the mall, meals at Country Cupboard, evenings at Knoebels, traveling the back roads and sharing history, Sunday afternoon visits, and always making sure that they knew she loved them and always wanted the best for them.
Mary Ruth is survived in life by her daughter, Sherry (Warren) Wright of Merrimack, NH; grandson, Nathaniel (Susan) Wright and their daughter, Ruth, of Elizabethtown, PA; grandson, Jason (Sarah) Wright and their children, Siaoli, Serenah, Jinger and Jake of Merrimack, NH; and granddaughter, Jennifer (Adam) DeMaggio and their children, Dominick, Seiler and Carter of Merrimack, NH.
