Mary Ellen Ernest, age 91, formerly of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 a resident of Grandview Health Homes since May of 2008.
Mary Ellen was born on Wednesday, July 28, 1920 at her family's home in Mayberry Township, a daughter of the late John M. and Carrie (Martz) Vought. Throughout her earlier years, she attended school at the Center School in Mayberry Township and later graduated in 1938 from the Ralpho Township High School in Elysburg.
Throughout her working life, she was employed by the former U.S. Radium, in Scott Township and later by Central Columbia High School. When not working outside of the home, she dedicated her time to her son and husband. She was a member of the Saint John Lutheran Church in Espy. She also like spending time planting flowers and gardening, but especially loved shopping in search of antiques throughout the area.
On January 25, 1997, she was preceded by her beloved husband, Walter B. 'Wally' Ernest, and also by a sister, Betty M. Klinger in 2003.
Surviving is a son: Kenneth E. Ernest and wife, Linda, of Sunbury; a grandson: John F. Ernest and wife, Amy, of Lewisburg; and a great-granddaughter, Leah; also by two step-children: Kirk Miller and wife, Wendy, of Catawissa and Loreen Romania and husband, Gregory, of Paxinos; step-grandchildren: Shane and Rachel Miller, Samantha, Viktoria, and Griffin Romania; and a sister: Lucile Vought of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 30 from 9 to 10 a.m. from the Saint John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Road (Espy), Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, March 30 at 10 a.m. from Saint John Lutheran Church with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Graveside services will be held in St. John (Vought) Lutheran Cemetery in Mayberry Township, Montour County.
