Mary K. Bower, age 73, of 2213 Bentley Drive, Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, January 24, 2010 in the Geisinger Medical Center where she was admitted suddenly. She was a resident at her home on Bentley Drive for over 19 years.
Mary was born on Saturday, May 2, 1936 in Bloomsburg, PA a daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn L. (Dodson) Fritz. She was raised by her step-father, Carl Houseknecht. She was a 1954 graduate of the Bloomsburg High School and a 1959 graduate of the Bloomsburg State Teachers School. During her working career, Mary was employed as a school teacher in the Allentown and Danville School Districts. She was a member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. Mary was preceded by her husband, James F. Bower on September 21, 2008.
Survivors include special friends: Jolynn and Thomas Garrison, Sr. of Berwick; and her last living relative, an aunt: Alma Sands of Berwick. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service. Burial will follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery.
