Dr. Marvin M. Hughes, DPM, age 99, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday morning, May 31, 2024, at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danville. Marvin was a resident of Bloomsburg since 1954.
He was born on Sunday, May 31, 1925 in Luzerne, a son of the late Gayle and Nettie (Shiffer) Hughes. Marvin graduated from the Wyoming Seminary, Kingston in 1942. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II as a pilot, enlisting in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Dr. Hughes graduated from Temple University Surgical School of Podiatric Medicine, Philadelphia in 1953. In 1954, Dr. Hughes opened his medical office in Bloomsburg until his retirement in 2013. On August 3, 1983, Marvin married his loving wife, Teresa J. "TJ" (Schutt) Hughes. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, skiing and spent many summers at his home at Harvey's Lake. He could often be found sitting in the sun with a book in his driveway. Many will remember his amazingly beautiful blue eyes.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sonia K. (Kuryloski) Hughes on September 21, 1978, as well as five brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years, Teresa J. "TJ" Hughes of Bloomsburg, three children; daughter, Deborah Hughes and her husband John Kern of Harrisburg, son, Greg Hughes and wife Anna of Frazier Park, CA, son, Mark J. Hughes and his significant other Tara Propst of Sunbury, four grandchildren, Lexi Hughes, Sage Hughes, Eli Hughes, and Alina Hughes.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hughes family.
