Mark J. Hollingshead, age 56, of Orchard Drive, Catawissa died on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at home with family under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. Mark had been battling a recent bout with cancer and had been failing in health since May of 2009.
Mark was born on Wednesday, August 24, 1955 in Bloomsburg, a son of Mae (Wertman) Hollingshead of Catawissa and the late Benjamin Hollingshead. He was a member of the 1973 Graduating Class of Southern Columbia High School. In 1986, he became an employee of Merck & Company, Inc. in Danville as the Maintenance Co-ordinator and retired in September of 2010. He enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting and also playing golf throughout the Susquehanna Valley. He was a member and player in the Danville Fast Pitch Softball League, and also enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams of the St. Louis Cardinals and a Penn State fan.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his devoted wife of 35 years, Jane Kachurka, having been married on August 21, 1976; a son: Mark J. Hollingshead II and Companion, Laurie Zaring, of Danville; a daughter: Alicia M. Hollingshead and companion, Torrey Quinn, of Catawissa; a granddaughter: Ayzah Quinn; a brother: David Hollingshead and wife, Mary of Coal Township; and also a mother-in-law: Katherine (Lucas) Kachurka of Catawissa.
A time of Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, November 6, from 6 to 9 pm from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 7, at 1 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg with Columbia Montour Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Christian Dunlap, officiating. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
