Marion Francis Staniszewski, age 91, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday morning, April 26, 2024, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born on Sunday, February 12, 1933 in Shamokin, a son of the late Benjamin and Stella (Pluta) Staniszewski, he grew up with four siblings; Cecelia, Mildred, Dorothy and Timothy.
He attended school at St. Edward's High School, Shamokin and transferred to Ellicott City, MD and then to Alabama where he began preparatory studies for the seminary. In 1957 he graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a degree in Theology.
Relocating to the Philadelphia suburbs, he met Elaine Adamzcyk whom he married on April 15, 1967. They were married for 23 years until her death in 1990.
Marion was employed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at Cardinal Dougherty High School where he taught French, German and world history. During his 29-year career, Marion was an assistant scoutmaster and organized the school's yearbook for several years. After retiring, he relocated to Bloomsburg where he met and married Mary "Bernie" in 1996.
Marion was an avid camper and hiker and logged over 9,000 miles hiking and cycling over a 10-year period of keeping track. He was a faithful Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Other interests included travel and continued studies of the languages he loved Latin, French and Polish.
He was a lifelong member of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Marion is survived by his wife Bernie, his daughter; Maria Cregar and husband Chris of Allentown, his son; Joseph and his wife Heather of Lansdale, two grandchildren; Lexi Yannaccone of Langhorne and Ian Yannaccone of Allentown. He is also survived by his beloved dog Star.
A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:00 am at The Oratory of Saint Elijah the Prophet, 438 West Ave., Mt. Carmel with Rev. John A. Szada Jr., as celebrant. Graveside committal services will be held on Monday May, 6, 2024 at 11:00 am in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown, PA. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Staniszewski family.
