Marilyn A. Lunger, age 82, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, a patient of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital.
She was born on Monday, October 21, 1940 in Wilkes Barre, a daughter of the late Gomer W. and Mary (Correll) Evans. Marilyn graduated from the Haverford High School in Pennsylvania in 1958. She graduated from The Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania in 1961, graduating as a professional nurse (RN). Marilyn's passion was nursing, she was employed for over a combined 60 years by the Bloomsburg Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center, Danville as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. Marilyn was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, where she was very active with the Rosary Society and other church functions. She was also a Lay Secular Nun for the Carmel of Jesus, Mary & Joseph, Elysburg, PA. Marilyn was an avid reader, she loved word puzzles and traveling.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Earl Lunger on August 18, 1985, by a son, Stephen B. Lunger, two brothers, Richard A. Evans, and Rev. G. William Evans.
Survivors include her two sons, Gary J. Lunger and spouse Juan of Asbury Park, NJ, David A. Lunger and spouse Tammy of Tallahassee, FL, a daughter-in-law, Lisa Lunger of Bloomsburg, five granddaughters, Kortney, Jennifer, Krystin, Megan, MacKenzie, several great-grandchildren, a sister, Nancy C. King and spouse Brendan J., Jr. of Wanaque, NJ, a sister-in-law, Karen Evans of Land-O-Lakes, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Friends and family will also be received on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Columba Catholic Church with Rev. Richard J. Mowery, celebrant. Graveside committal services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 10:00 am in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Lunger family.
