Marian Louise Hartenbach, age 81, of Catawissa, died on Saturday evening, June 29, 2013 a resident of the Berwick Retirement Village since March. Marian was a resident of Catawissa since 1995, and she would have celebrated her 82nd birthday this past Sunday.
Marian was born on Tuesday, June 30, 1931 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Bernard and Orpha (Williams) Crissman. Marian graduated from the Hopewell Area High School in 1949. She continued her education from Geneva College, and graduated in 1965 with a teaching degree in Elementary Education. In 1965, Marian was employed with the Coudersport School District as a First Grade Teacher for over 28 years until her retirement in 1993. Formerly an active member of the Coudersport Presbyterian Church, Marian was most recently a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church, and then the Catawissa First United Methodist Church. For many years, she was the church musician and lay speaker at the Sweden Valley U.M.C. and the Rupert U.M.C. as well as holding many leadership roles in the both churches. She was a member of the Regents Club in the Allegewi Chapter of the D.A.R. in Coudersport, and also a member of the Eulalia Chapter of the Coudersport Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1960, Marian was preceded by her beloved husband, the late Henry O. Hartenbach.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter: Karen Sue Stroup and husband, Carl, of Russell, PA; her son: Rev. Ralph B. Hartenbach and wife, Julie, of Berwick; four grandchildren and one great-grandson, and also a brother: Howard B. Crissman and wife, Fern, of West Newton, PA.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, July 3 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with her son, Rev. Ralph B. Hartenbach, officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa.
