Margarete "Gretel" Derr, age 87, of Bloomsburg, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Gretel was a resident in Bloomsburg for over 46 years.

She was born on Wednesday, August 7, 1935 in Gaissach, Bavaria, Germany a daughter of the late Josef and Helene Gerg. She graduated from the German Trade School in 1953 and managed a butcher shop in Bad Heilbrunn, Germany. On April 25, 1957, Gretel married her loving husband, Lone L. Derr. She was a member of the Auxiliary Bloomsburg VFW and the Catawissa American Legion. She loved cooking German food, spending time with her family and taking long walks in the mountains.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn J. Derr and her brother Johann Gerg.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years, Lone L. Derr of Bloomsburg, a son, Andrew Derr and wife Carol of Bloomsburg, three grandchildren: Zachary R. Derr and wife Ashley, Jennifer M. Whitebread, Amanda H. Beck and husband Michael, and seven great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market St at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Derr family.
