Mae Lucille Shaffer, age 93, of Locust Street, Bloomsburg died on Friday, April 29, 2011a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was a resident of her home on Locust Street since 1954 and formerly of the family farm in Scott Township.
Mae was born on Tuesday, April 9, 1918 in Scott Township, a daughter of the late Roy C. and Lillian (Sitler) Shaffer. She was a member of the 1936 Graduating Class of the former Scott High School and also graduated as a Nurses Aid from Geisinger School of Nursing. She later reached the achievement of a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Geisinger. She retired in 1984 while serving the surrounding areas as a Private Duty Nurse. She was currently a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg and was formerly a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Espy where she was a Sunday School Teacher.
Preceding her in death was a sister: Pearl L. Shaffer on December 12, 2008; and three brothers: Raymond A., Earl C. and Doyle C. Shaffer.
Survivors include a sister: Grace M. Shaffer of Bloomsburg; two brothers: Rolland O. Shaffer of Bloomsburg and Howard E. Shaffer and wife, Betty, of N. Centre Township; a nephew: Steven Shaffer, who cared for and assisted the Shaffer sisters, of Bloomsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg with Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at the Allen Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside Services will be held in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
