Obituary

M. Eugene Morrison, age 82, of Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, January 6, 2014 in the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Emergency Room.
Eugene was born on Saturday, February 28, 1931 in Danville, a son of the late John and Pauline (Trump) Morrison. Eugene completed his high school education as a member of the 1949 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. He continued his education at the Bloomsburg State Teachers College until his graduation in 1953. While attending college, he was a member of the Huskies Football team. Immediately following college, Eugene enlisted with the United States Army where he served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict. On May 24, 1955, Eugene was honorably discharged from his time of service as a Corporal in the United States Army.
On June 18, 1960, Eugene married his loving wife, Sarah Ridgway. After returning home to Bloomsburg, Eugene was employed for over 29 years as a Science teacher for the Bloomsburg High School until his retirement in 1987. He was also a coach for many of the high school sports programs. In addition to teaching, Eugene was the owner and operator of All Occasion Rentals in Bloomsburg for 30 years. He was a dedicated member of the First English Baptist Church in Bloomsburg. Eugene was always a very avid sports fan and loved cheering on his favorite teams, especially his alma mater, Bloomsburg University. He spent many years of his retirement as a volunteer correspondent for the Bloomsburg University Huskies Football team. He also spent many years working on the farm of his son-in-law, Kemmerer Farms in Briar Creek.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Sarah (Ridgway) Morrison; five children: Michael Morrison and wife, Rhoneila, of Bloomsburg; Michele Hartzel and husband, Bradley, of Mifflinville; Mindy Kemmerer and husband, Alan, of Berwick; Matthew Morrison and wife, Katina, of Hebron, KY; and Mitchell Morrison and wife, Kelly, of Erdenheim; twenty grandchildren: Ron, Robin, Eli, Ethan, Dustin, Shana, Kristin, Lauren, Adam, Nathan, Matthew, Kelsi, Belle, Cidni, Nikol, Nicholas, Christian, Paige, Lily, and Isabelle; four great-grandchildren: Lilah, Mallory, Blake and Nolan; and also a brother: John Morrison and wife, Marilyn, of Salisbury, MD.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening, January 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, January, 11 at 10 a.m. from the First English Baptist Church, 700 Millville Rd., Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Graveside committal services immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
