Obituary

Louis J. Slobinsky, Jr., age 83, of Orangeville, died on Monday evening, January 12, 2015 a patient of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Louis had been battling health challenges throughout the past year.
Louis was born on Sunday, May 10, 1931 in South Fork, PA, a son of the late Louis J. and Stella (Sobel) Slobinsky, Sr. Throughout his younger years, Louis attended and later graduated from the South Fork-Croyle High School in 1950. Louis expanded his education by attending the Saint Francis University in Johnstown where he graduated with a BA Degree in Education. Following his college education, Louis enlisted with the United States Navy in 1952 where he served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict. Throughout his time of service, Louis served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge and the U.S.S. Oriskany in the Taiwan Formosa Strait. He was honorably discharge from his second term after enlisting in the United States Marine Corp.
Louis returned home and was employed by the Baltimore County School District for over 30 years as a 5th Grade School Teacher in the Owings Mills Elementary School. After retiring in the mid-late 1980's, Louis moved to the Bloomsburg area. He was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish, a 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus, the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post # 273 and the VFW Ft. McClure Post # 804 in Bloomsburg.
In addition to his parents, Louis was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley F. (Fisher) Slobinsky on December 12, 1992.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 16 years, Mary E. (Shandis) Slobinsky, having been married on May 30, 1998; two daughters: Tina M. Schultz and husband, Stephen, of Bloomsburg; Jeane Hayman and husband, Jeff, of Reedville, VA; a step-daughter: Peggy Schnerr and husband, Buddy, of Bloomsburg; and a step-son: Rick E. Dietrich and wife, Alyssa, of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Virginia Dunmire of Florida; Stella Sauter of Parma, OH; and Yvonne Schwartzentruber and husband, Jay, of Ebensburg, PA.
At the request of family, interment will be held privately at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Slobinsky family.
