Obituary

Lone Leroy Derr, age 85, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home. Lone was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for his whole life.

He was born on Sunday, January 30, 1938, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Glenn E. and Kathryn E. (Kelchner) Derr. He graduated from the Beaver Main School in 1955. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he honorably served for 20 years including the Vietnam war with two bronze stars. He spent 16 years in Germany where he met his wife, two years in Vietnam and two years stateside.

On April 25, 1957, Lone married his loving wife, Margarete Gerg in Lenggries, Germany. He graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1981, with a bachelor's degree in accounting and business. Lone was self-employed as a transportation contractor and an income tax specialist, where he was an enrolled agent until his retirement in 2019. Some of his accomplishments included automobile racing, skeet shooting, bowling, running, bicycle riding, volksmarching and geocaching. He played in a blue grass band. He and his wife adored their dogs and took daily walks with them. He also enjoyed watching the stock market and worked in tax preparation into his late 70's. He will be greatly missed by friends, family and dog, Chloe whom will be cared for by a family member.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Margerete, he was preceded in death by a son, Glenn J. Derr and a brother, Doyle Derr.

Survivors include one son, Andrew J. Derr and wife Carol S. of Bloomsburg, three grandchildren: Zachary R. Derr and wife Ashley of Bloomsburg, Jennifer M. Whitebread of Mifflinville, Amanda H. Beck and husband Michael of Bloomsburg, seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon M. Derr and Dale H. Derr of Bloomsburg.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
