Lois Y. (Ellwell) Greenly, age 91, of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday morning, January 16, 2014 surrounded by her family at her home and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice.
Lois was born on Sunday, December 24, 1922 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late H.B. and Ellen (Noah) Ellwell, Sr. In 1941, Lois graduated from the former Scott Township High School. She advanced her education by attending the Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh. Lois met and later married her loving husband, William D. Greenly, Sr. of Bloomsburg. She devoted her loving care to the responsibilities of her family at their home in Bloomsburg. In 1976, Lois was employed as the Senior Clerk Typist at the former Columbia Insurance in Bloomsburg until her retirement in 1988. Lois was a devoted member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg for over 50 years. She was also a life-member of the local O.E.S. #279 in Bloomsburg. Lois always had a special talent for crocheting and knitting for many years. She also loved taking walks throughout the Town of Bloomsburg, and especially enjoyed taking time to read a good book.
On May 27, 1987, Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, the late William D. Greenly, Sr. She was also preceded by two brothers: William S. Ellwell and Dr. Hildreth B. Ellwell, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter: Darlene Waskie and husband, Michael Rudgeiro, of Boston, MA; three sons: Larry W. Greenly and wife, Edie, of Albuquerque, NM; Duane R. Greenly and wife, Sue, of Mechanicsburg; and William D. Greenly, Jr. and wife, Holly, of Danville; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Lois was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening, January 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg. Friends will also be received on Monday morning, January 20 from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the Wesley United Methodist Church parlor, 130 W. Third Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Monday morning, January 20 at 11 a.m. from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
