Obituary

Lewis E. Welsh, age 59, of Ridge Street in Almedia, died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 as a patient at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on Saturday, September 16, 1950 in Bloomsburg he was a son of Leatrice Miller Welsh Hess, South Centre Township and the late Walter Welsh. He resided in Almedia for 20 years and formerly R.R. 5 Bloomsburg. He attended Central Columbia High School. Prior to retiring due to ill health, he had been employed as a union carpenter for over 20 years and was last employed by Sergeant Flooring, Jim Thorpe. Lewis enjoyed hunting, camping, Pow Wows, riding his horse, playing with his dogs and time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Welsh; a sister, Rita Welsh and a brother, Gary Welsh. Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his wife of 22 years, the former Mary A. Kramer; sons, Lewis E. Welsh II and his wife Janice, Oshkosh, WI, Michael Welsh, Washington, D.C., Stephen Welsh, Oshkosh, WI, and Christopher Welsh, Buckhorn; granddaughters, Taylor and Michaela and grandson, Ethan Welsh, all of Oshkosh, WI, and granddaughter Vanessa Welsh, Catawissa; brothers, Douglas Dean Welsh, Berwick and Ronald Welsh and his wife Darla, Bloomsburg; sisters, Connie, South Carolina and Joline Garrison and her husband Tom, Bloomsburg; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market St. at Eighth St., Bloomsburg with the Rev. Greg Molter, pastor of St. Paul's Emmanuel Methodist Church, Danville, officiating. Interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mr. Welsh's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Columbia County Unit, 1948 E.
