Lewis J. Matyas, Jr., age 79, of Jerseytown, died on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at his Madison Township home where he resided 33 years. He was formerly of Tewksbury, NJ.
He was born on Sunday, November 30, 1941 in Orange, New Jersey, a son of the late Lewis J., Sr. and Elizabeth (Lebitz) Matyas. He graduated from the Columbia High School, Maplewood NJ in 1959. After high school graduation, Lewis faithfully served his country and was honorably discharged from the US Navy.
For over 40 years Lewis was a farmer in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. As a carpenter, Lewis built many homes in New Jersey as well as additions and restorations. He raised black angus cattle; grew hay, corn and other products. He provided horse hay for many years for his NJ customers. Lewis loved his farm, family, grandchildren, animals, friends and gardening. He was always there to help anyone in need. As an employer of agricultural students, he made them work and taught them many skills.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was also preceded in death by his siblings: James Matyas, John Matyas, and, Susan Matyas. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Linda (Tighe) Matyas, three children; Keith Matyas and wife Jennifer of Tewksbury, NJ, Jake Matyas and wife, Lisa of Winnetka, IL, and Beth Wolfmayer and husband, John of Sunset Beach, NC; four step children; John McDonald and wife, Brandi of Jerseytown, Joseph McDonald and wife, Kristen of Mendham, NJ, Daniel McDonald and wife, Victoria of Far Hills, NJ and Colleen McDonald of White Township, NJ; 22 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 West Main at Railroad St. Millville, is honored to be serving the Matyas family.
