Leona L. Gensel, age 93, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, December 23, 2018, a resident of the Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center. Leona was a resident of Pepper Hills for over 30 years.

Leona was born on Thursday, August 6, 1925 in Iola, a daughter of the late Philip and Ethel (Shoemaker) Allen. Throughout her younger years, Leona attended the Iola schools.

For over 30 years, Leona was employed by Bloom Mills as a Machine Operator until her retirement in 1987. Leona enjoyed spending her time playing cards, lotto tickets, crocheting, entertaining family and friends. Most of all Leona enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, James H. Gensel, Sr., Leona was also preceded by siblings: Letha Stackhouse, Lois Whitenight, Annie Phillips, Jacob Allen, John Allen, James Allen and Clyde Allen.

Survivors include five children: Robert Allen and wife Roberta of Bloomsburg, PA, Mary Fox and companion Dennis Hartzell of Bloomsburg, James H. Gensel, Jr. of Danville, Harriet Babb and husband, Thomas, of Lake Isabella, CA, and Phyllis Nagle and husband, James, of Reading, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market and Eighth St., Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will follow on Thursday, at 11:00 am with Rev. John Kolenda, pastor Glad Tidings Assembly of God, officiating. Private graveside committal services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Gensel family.
