Obituary

Leo F. Hons, age 94, of Mainville, died on Thursday morning, February 19, 2015, at his home and under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice. Leo was a resident of his home in Main Township since 1949.
Leo was born on Wednesday, July 28, 1920 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Harvey F. and Produs (Hunsinger) Hons. Throughout his younger years, Leo attended the Beaver area schools, and later graduated from the Beaver High School in 1938. As a younger man, Leo was employed by the former Bloomsburg Mills until 1982. For over 54 years, Leo was employed in the Insurance industry. He was the President of the former Main Beaver Black Creek Insurance Company until the merging into the Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Insurance Company where he served on the Board of Directors for over 40 years. Leo never officially retired and was currently a Director of Emeritus for the company.
On November 8, 1944, Leo enlisted with the United State Army where he served his country faithfully with the 30th Infantry Regiment during World War II. He was awarded the European-African-Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupational Medal. Leo was a member of the St. Peter's (Hargers) Lutheran Church for many years. When time allowed outside his employment, Leo enjoyed spending his time working on the family farm, driving tractors and attending auctions until his health would not allow. Leo also enjoyed breeding Beagles for hunting, and shared many memories with his son, grandsons and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, the late Hattie I. (Fisher) Hons, who passed on July 27, 2008.
Survivors include his only son: Allen F. Hons and wife, Marie, of Bloomsburg; four grandsons: Mark A. Hons of Bloomsburg; Brian F. Hons and wife, Lynn, of Drums; Scott L. Hons and wife, Sara, of Bloomsburg; and Todd H. Hons and wife, Janelle, of York; a great-grandson: Ryan S. Hons; five great-granddaughters: Kayla M. Hons, Emily L. Hons, Isabella K. Hons, Madelyn R. Hons, and Reese E. Hons; a sister, Vera DeMott of Millville and numerous nephews and nieces.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday morning, February 26, 2015 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will also begin on Thursday afternoon, February 26, 2015 at 12:30 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg with Rev. Jennifer M. Kopacz, officiating. Graveside committal services with full Military Honors will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hons family.
