Leila M. (Miller) Girton, age 93, of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday morning, September 14, 2013 a resident of the Millville Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided since March 2009. For over 57 years Leila resided on Boone Road, Bloomsburg.
Leila was born on Tuesday, October 14, 1919 in Milton, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Henry and Winifred (Moser) Miller. Throughout her earlier years, Leila completed her education from the Grovania Area Schools. On January 23, 1938, Leila married her beloved husband James Girton. For many years she was employed as a Matron by the Columbia County Prison in Bloomsburg. She also was employed by Magee Carpet Co., Letterman Bakery, Roselon Yarn, Riegel Shirt Factory and GLF Canning Factory. She attended as a member of the Bloomsburg Christian Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #721 and the Daughters of the America.
On May 5, 2000, Leila was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, the late James Henry Girton. Also preceding her was a grandson: Samuel Bordner, two great-grandsons: Timothy and Evan Long; and two brothers: Harold Miller and Henry Miller.
Survivors include a daughter: Betty Long and husband, William, of Danville; a granddaughter: MarySue Jones and husband, William; Four grandsons: William Long and wife, Susan, Glenn Long and wife, Diane, Randy Long and wife, Donna, and Mark Long and wife, Loriann; 8 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20 at 2 p.m. also from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Visitation and Benevolence Pastor, George Jones, officiating. Graveside services where Leila will be laid to rest beside her husband will be held in Lime Ridge.
