Larue W. Penman, age 91, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018, a resident of the Sunset Ridge Health Care Center in Scott Township. Larue was a life long resident of Columbia County.
Larue was born on Saturday, September 4, 1926 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Montgomery B. and Hazel (Werkheiser) Penman. Throughout his younger years, Larue attended the Bloomsburg area schools.
During World War II Larue faithfully served his country in the Antitank Company of the 161st Infantry, US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
On May 10, 1952, Larue married his loving wife, the former Betty Reibsame. For many years, Larue was employed by Danville State Hospital until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg, the Woodman Of The World, and Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273.
In addition to his parents, Larue was also preceded by four siblings: Hurl Penman, Donald Penman, Leroy Penman, and Jane Smith.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty Penman; two children: Linda J. Shultz and husband, Clifford, of Bloomsburg and Dennis Penman and wife (Dorothy) of Danville, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St.,Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, at 2:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, and Chaplain Ryan Reigh, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Creveling Cemetery, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be presented by a combined American Legion and V.F.W. groups. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Penman family.
