Larry L. Wintersteen, age 90, of Catawissa, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Larry was a resident of his home in Catawissa Twp. for over 60 years.
He was born on Thursday, May 9, 1929 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Chester and Ruth (George) Wintersteen. Larry graduated from the former Catawissa High School in 1947 and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. On December 31, 1955, Larry married his loving wife, the former Rhona J. Thomas. For over 34 years, Larry was employed by Milco Industries, Bloomsburg and retired as a foreman in 1991. During this time he owned and operated Wintersteen's Electric Repair Service. Following retirement he enjoyed working part time at Weis Markets and Tractor Supply, both of Bloomsburg.
Larry was a member of the Catawissa First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee and usher. He enjoyed farming, hunting, gardening, riding horses, woodworking, polka dancing, and square dancing with the Susque Country Squares. He loved vacationing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Larry was known as an all around handyman to his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley M. Powell.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Rhona J. Wintersteen, at home; two daughters: Tami S. wife of Craig Morgan of Annville, Trudi J. wife of Kevin Hoch of Harrisburg, seven grandchildren: Ashley wife of Andrew Schade, Amy wife of Michael Parker, Alyse Morgan, Danielle Spataro, Justine wife of Nathan Snyder, Tyler Hoch and wife Deone, Janelle Hoch, and twelve great grandchildren.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Catawissa First United Methodist Church, 228 South St., Catawissa. Funeral services will begin on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Catawissa First United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan O. Rogutski, officiating.
Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be provided by a combined American Legion and V.F.W. groups. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Wintersteen family.
