Obituary

Karl A. Beamer, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Evangelical Hospital in Lewisburg. Karl was born in Harrisburg, PA where lived until he attended Kutztown University majoring in art education. Upon graduation, he taught art at Cumberland Valley for several years. Deciding to pursue his graduate degree, he was accepted into the Master of fine arts program at Penn State main campus where he attended and graduated. Shortly after graduation, Karl was hired at Bloomsburg University to teach Ceramics and Sculpture. After many fulfilling years of teaching at Bloomsburg, he retired in 2009 as a full professor. While teaching at the university, he had an opportunity to travel to Japan to meet a master ceramic artist and learn a new form of Japanese ceramic firing. A lifelong brotherhood was forged. Together they built an ancient Anagama Japanese wood-fired kiln. This experience turned into a life changing event for Karls entire family. Karl traveled to Japan several times to make and fire his works.

Anyone who knew Karl, knew he had a unique personality and zest for life! You always knew when Karl entered the room, you heard him first! During his lifetime, he was able to fulfill his passions; playing ice hockey for the Junior Hershey Bears, dirt track racing, playing golf, building model train layouts and building his own ceramics studio, as well as his love of animals especially cats. Karl loved spending time with his family, especially at the beach. He loved watching the waves and pondering life. Karl was also an avid dirt track race fan. Not only did he enjoy watching, he also enjoyed racing as well. Karl also helped construct many projects at the Bloomsburg Children's Museum. He loved creating exhibits to enhance the lives for the younger generation. Karl was also a life member of the Mainville fire company. He lettered and gold leafed all of the firetrucks and most recently painted the firehall mural. It was common to drive by the Beamer house and see race cars, motorcycles, and firetrucks waiting to be striped, lettered and gold-leafed by Karl. His style of brushwork is unmistakable and irreplaceable.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny, two daughters, Kori Beamer of New Cumberland; Nikolle (Beamer) Bastian of Watsontown, son-in-law, Barry Bastian and his favorite person in the whole wide world, his grandson Greyson Bastian, a brother; Jack Beamer of Allentown, as well as several nieces and nephews.
