Obituary

K. Fred Fries Jr., 83, of Madison Township, passed away suddenly at his home Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Born in Lancaster on May 3, 1943, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (LeFever) Fries.

Mr. Fries was a graduate of Manheim Township High School, Class of 1961 and continued his education at Penn State University, graduating in 1965. On September 12 of that same year, he wed the former Kathleen “Kathy” McCreery, with whom he would raise a family and share 60 years of marriage. For 61 years, Fred had been employed by Dillon Floral, where he had held the titles of Vice President, President, and most recently, Executive Advisor. During his long career, he aided in the management of flower production, collaborated with Penn State University to implement state-of-the-art technologies and make Dillon Floral a leading US greenhouse flower grower, and lead the company in the rapidly changing global floral distribution market. He was a highly respected horticulturist, who had lead Roses, Inc., the rose growers’ trade association, as its research committee chair. His passions also included the stewardship of his 90-acre property where he diligently worked to create a healthy and diverse habitat for flora and fauna alike. Fred, along with Kathy, also enjoyed traveling, spending summers in Maine and traveling to Chincoteague in the spring and fall. Additionally, he found success as a rockhound, specifically targeting fluorescent rocks and minerals, which he collected and sold. Above all, however, Fred cherished his family and the time spent with them.

Surviving Fred is his beloved wife, Kathleen “Kathy” McCreery Fries; daughters: Donna Turner and husband, Jeff, of Lime Ridge and Bonnie Keister and husband, Andy, of Bloomsburg; grandchildren: Nick Turner and wife, Hannah, of Bloomsburg, Katie Brown and husband, Sawyer, of Bellefonte, Benjamin Keister and wife, Olivia, of New Columbia and Brooke Keister and Cam McCarthy of Bloomsburg; and great-grandchildren: Owen Turner and William Keister.

All are welcome to join Fred’s family for his visitation 1-4 PM, Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Camp Victory, 58 Camp Victory Road, Millville, PA 17846. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the Fries family.
