June D. Matylewicz, age 92, of Millville, died on Monday evening, December 16, 2013 surrounded by her family as a resident of the Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Facility since May of this year.
June was born on Saturday, May 21, 1921 in Scranton, a daughter of the late Robert and Marguerite (Pike) Donovan. In 1939, June completed her high school education after graduating from the Scranton Technical High School. Immediately following high school, she furthered her education by attending a local business school for many years. On April 10, 1948, June married her husband, Stanley F. Matylewicz, Jr. For many years, June was employed by the Millville School District as an elementary teacher's aide until her retirement in 1987. She was a devoted member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish until her health would not allow. She was a member of the Millville Women's Civic Group for many years where she served as past-president as well as multiple other offices. She was also a former Millville Girl Scout Leader and the Neighbor Director of the Penn's Woods Girl Scout Council in Wilkes-Barre.
In 1951, June was preceded in death by a son, in infancy, Gerald Matylewicz, and a son: Thomas Matylewicz in 1995; and two siblings: Dorothy in 1929 and Robert in 2004.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 65 years, Stanley F. Matylewicz, Jr., of Millville; three daughters: Gloria Woolcock and husband, Gary, of Millville; Peggy Moore and husband, Michael, of Frederick, MD; Julie Matylewicz of Millville; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. June was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 20, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad St., Millville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will also begin on Friday, December 20 at 1 p.m. from the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron and Railroad St., Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, celebrant. A graveside committal service will be held immediately following in the Millville Cemetery.
