Joyce Adair Pealer

Joyce Adair Pealer, 86, of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 10, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Born October 5, 1939, Joyce lived a life defined by devotion to family and close friends, loyal love, firm convictions, and a direct, candid honesty that people came to know.

Joyce was the beloved daughter of Jay and Marjorie Crawford. She married Carroll Eugene “Pete” Pealer, an Air Force pilot, in 1957 and together they embraced the unique adventure of military life. Joyce loved being part of the Air Force wives’ community and the friendships it fostered—enjoying social time filled with mahjong, bridge, and gatherings that made far-from-home places feel familiar. Most of all, she was a loving wife and a dedicated mother, raising their three children through the seasons of Pete’s assignments. She was a devoted mother to Melissa, Jeffrey, and Gregory, and later a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Pete preceded Joyce in death in 1977.

After Pete’s passing, Joyce returned to Bloomsburg and built a home across from her parents — a place that became the center of family life, milestones, and everyday visits. Not long after settling back, Joyce began a new chapter with remarkable determination: she enrolled at Bloomsburg University, earned her education degree, and began her second career teaching at Bloomsburg High School. She taught business and other classes for more than twenty years. Joyce was proud of her work, deeply valued her colleagues, and kept close friendships with many fellow educators both before and after retirement.

Joyce loved being with her family and traveling with them. She especially treasured time spent visiting her daughter Melissa while she lived in Europe, and delighted in family trips throughout Europe—returning to places filled with memories from the years Joyce lived abroad during Pete’s Air Force service. Another place that captured her heart was Hilton Head Island, where she returned year after year with her family, creating traditions and memories that spanned generations.

In recent years, Joyce moved to Vintage Knolls in Danville, where she found new friends and caring staff who felt like family. She never lost her sense of fun—Joyce loved her wine and, in later years, enjoyed the occasional (and often not-so-occasional) trip to the casino to play the slots, especially Keno. Those who knew Joyce best will also remember her firm convictions and her wonderfully candid way of speaking her mind—often with very little filter—which kept people honest and made for plenty of laughs and stories.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Sharon Robbins; by her son Jeffrey Pealer and his wife, Ann Pealer, and their children Brandon, Blake, and Lance; and by her son Gregory Pealer and his wife, Anne Pealer, and their daughter Shelby. She was a proud great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Eugene ‘Pete’ Pealer; by her daughter, Melissa Wakefield, who passed away in 2024 (married to Bradley Wakefield); and by her brother, Edwin Crawford.

Joyce will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and the steady love she gave so freely—first as an Air Force wife building community wherever life took her, then as an educator who cared about her students and colleagues, and always as the heart of her family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she loved so deeply.
