Josephine A. Magaskie, age 83, formerly of Shamokin died on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Grandview Health Home where she was admitted in August 2009. Josephine was born on Friday, July 23, 1926 in Danville, PA a daughter of the late John and Edna (Ritzmand) Gaertner. She was a 1944 graduate and Valedictorian of the St Edward's High School in Shamokin. Josephine's employment included working for Montgomery Ward and the Yoch Bakery in Shamokin. Most of her working career, Josephine was a sales clerk for Sears, Roebuck and Co. until her retirement in 1994. Her favorite hobby was playing pinocle, and she loved animals.
She is the widow of the late Edward J. Magaskie who passed in 1990. Survivors include three daughters: Carol M. McCusker and husband, Richard, of Philadelphia; Kathy J. Marzari of Bloomsburg; and Diane Darginski and husband, Joseph, of Ranshaw, PA; a son: Daniel Magaskie and wife, Nicole, of Ambler, PA; ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her late husband, Josephine was preceded by a sister: Jacqueline Haas. Friends will be received Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St, Bloomsburg. Burial will be held in the Gethsemane Cemetery in Laureldale, Pennsylvania at a later date.
