Obituary

Joseph S. Fenstermacher, age 86, a life-long resident of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday, January 26, 2012 after a sudden illness at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Joseph lived his entire adult life in Bloomsburg.
Joseph was born on Monday, February 9, 1925 in Columbia County, a son of the late Violet (Bruch) Fenstermacher. Throughout his earlier years, he attended the Bloomsburg Area Schools. Following his education, he enlisted with the United States Army and served during World War II in the European Theater in the Combat Infantry Division. After returning home to Bloomsburg, he was employed by Merck & Co., Inc. in Danville until retiring in 1984. He was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273 and the Catawissa VFW Post #8306.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 54 years, Edith (Evans) Fenstermacher, having been married in July of 1957; also surviving are two daughters: Sue Ellen King and husband, Wayne, of Bristol, IN; and Joyce Hart and husband, Clifton, of Carlisle; a son: Frank Remaly and wife, Eleanor, of Greybull, WY; two granddaughters; three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. Joseph was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 30 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Friends will be received on Monday at the Allen Funeral Home just prior to services. Graveside services will be held in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. A combined group of VFW/American Legion will provide Military Honors.
