Joseph J. Devaney Jr., age 78, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, a resident of the Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danville. He was a resident of his home in Scott Township for over 45 years.
Joseph was born on Tuesday, February 11, 1947, in Wilkes Barre, a son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Featherstone) Devaney. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Wilkes Barre in 1965. He faithfully served in The United States Army during the Vietnam War from September 12, 1965, and was honorably discharged on August 18, 1969. On January 15, 1972, Joseph married his loving wife, the former Carol J. Marino who preceded him in death on January 15, 2015. For over 32 years, he was employed by Pennsylvania State Police as a Corporal until his retirement in 2004. After retirement he was a Deputy Sheriff in Columbia County until his second retirement in 2017. Joseph was a member of the St. Columba Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, Bloomsburg Post 273, Elks Lodge #436 BPOE, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police. Joseph enjoyed spending his time driving his Corvette around, walking his dogs, he was a diehard Yankees and Notre Dame Fan and most importantly spending time with his family.
Survivors include his three beloved children: Joseph Devaney of Silver Springs, MD, Michael Devaney and wife Michele of Middletown, PA, Theresa Wirth and husband Kirk of Bloomsburg; two granddaughters: Isabella Devaney of Middletown, Olivia Devaney of Silver Spring, MD; and a sister, Anne Metzo.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg, with Wake Service starting at 6:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 10:00 am at the St. Columba Catholic Church in with Reverend Aaron Lynch, celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. Military Honors will be provided by the Columbia County Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Devaney family.
