Obituary

Jon Ellis Turner, age 79, of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was a lifelong resident of his farm in Mt. Pleasant Twp.

Jon was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1944, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Ellis H. and Minnie (Mellick) Turner. He graduated from Central Columbia High School in 1962. On July 31, 1971, Jon married his loving wife, the former Shirley Dent. For many years, he was self-employed as a farmer and school bus driver for Central Columbia School District. Jon was a member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the former Friendship Fire Company. He was also a member of the Lightstreet Fire Company, Bloomsburg Agway Board, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Central Columbia Agricultural Advisory Committee. For nearly forty years he worked security for the Bloomsburg Fair Association. He was also a Mt. Pleasant Twp. Supervisor for over 25 years. Jon enjoyed spending his time hunting, being a NASCAR fan and watching his grandchildren play a variety of sports.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six siblings: D. Jane Fritz, Fred C. Turner, Helen T. Shuman, James A. "Jim" Turner, Sr., Merle B. Turner and Eilean F. Ashenfelder.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years: Shirley (Dent) Turner of Bloomsburg; four children: Brian DeWitt and wife, Dawn, of Ellicott City, MD, Deanna Shoemaker of CO, Angela Klock and husband, Christian, of Bloomsburg, Curt Turner and wife, Lydia, of Bloomsburg; nine grandchildren: Kelsey DeWitt and husband, David White, Anna Marie DeWitt, Jacob Klock, Jonah Klock, Elijah Klock, Ellis Turner, Grace Turner, Danielle Rodriguez and Khalil Rodriguez; two great grandchildren: Sawyer Rodriguez and Maverick Rodriguez and a sister, Elaine K. Snyder of Shamokin Dam.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Becky Cuddeback, Lightstreet United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Turner family.
