John Lloyd Watts, age 78, of Millville, died on Wednesday afternoon, August 7, 2013 at his home with his wife by his side, and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. John had been failing in health for the past few years.
John was born on Friday, July 26, 1935 in Pine Township, a son of the late John H. and Grace (Gower) Watts. Throughout his younger years, John attended school at the one room schoolhouse in Pine Township, and later graduated in 1952 from the Millville High School. John also attended the Bloomsburg State Teachers College until his enlistment in the United State Army. On June 5, 1956, John enlisted with the United States Army where he served his country faithfully as a Radio Operator stationed out of Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. John served his country faithfully during the Cold War era, and continued until his time of honorable discharge.
On September 23, 1961, John married the love of his life and wife of 52 years, E. Jane (Edkin) Watts. John spent his entire working career employed as a Textile Engineer. In 1958, he won a Magee Carpet Scholarship to the Philadelphia Textile, and also graduated top of his engineering class in 1961. For over 34 years, John worked as a technical advisor and department head in the Synthetic Fiber Industry, until his retirement in 1995.
Throughout his younger years, John was very active in various indoor and outdoor sports. Most recently, he was an avid and competitive bridge player with his devoted partner by his side, who was also his wife. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #408 F&AM in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, are two daughters: Linda Watts of Sioux Falls, SD; and Cheryl Watts, of Albany, NY; a sister: Sally Roberts and husband, Tom, of Catawissa; and also by a brother: Norman Watts of Media, PA.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening, August 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad Street, Millville. A Masonic service will begin at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will begin on Monday morning, August 12 at 10 a.m. from the Millville Christian Church, 245 E. Main St., Millville with his pastor, Rev. Richard Plocinski, officiating. Graveside services with full Military Honors will follow in the Millville Cemetery.
