John Owsianik , age 97, of Catawissa, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the home of his daughter in Cleveland Township. John was formerly a resident of River View Apartments, Catawissa. Most of John's life was spent in Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY.
John was born on Tuesday, May 13, 1919 in Manhattan, New York, a son of the late Adam and Olga (Zandko) Owsianik and was proud to be a first generation American.
John graduated from the Peter Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and was awarded a degree in Chemical Engineering from the New York University.
In his youth, John was a band leader of the Golden Bells and an accomplished accordionist. During WW2 he worked in the Pentagon as a civilian.
For many years, John was employed by Tuck Tape of New Rochelle NY as an Engineer until his retirement in 1985.
In addition to his parents, John was also preceded by his wife Sonya (Pravlocka) Owsianik on May 2, 1986.
Survivors include his daughter, Sonya Vitello and husband, Christopher J., of Catawissa, PA and a grandson, Christopher T. Vitello.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 10 to 11 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin at 11 am at the Allen Funeral Home. Graveside committal services will be held on Thursday, June 23, at 1 pm in St. Vladimir Cemetery,Jackson, NJ, . The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Owsianik family.
