John P. Metrishyn, age 91, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at his Mt. Pleasant Twp. home. John was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 10 years and previously resided in Scranton.

He was born on Thursday, March 17, 1927 in Dickson City, a son of the late Peter and Victoria (Jurusick) Metrishyn. Throughout his younger years, John attended the Dickson City area schools, and later graduated from the Dickson City High School. John expanded his education by attending University of Scranton for 2 years. He faithfully served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1951. On June 19, 1971, John married his loving wife, the former Eleanor Zuba. He was employed by Giant Market, Scranton as a Dairy Manager until his retirement in 1992. John was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. He enjoyed spending his time gardening and feeding the birds. He was a jack of all trades and master of none and good at everything he did.

In addition to his parents, John was also preceded by six siblings; Michael Metrishyn, Mary Metrishyn, Eva Walter, Victoria Gentile, Anna Stevens, and Paul Metrishyn.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Eleanor Metrishyn at home; a daughter, Dr. Lori wife of Steve Masteller of Bloomsburg, two grandsons, John Masteller, and Sean Masteller.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Columba Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, as celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Metrishyn family.
