John was born on Tuesday, September 5, 1950 in Danville, a son of the late Paul and Betty K. (Kuster) Martin. He graduated from Bloomsburg High School, class of 1969. On October 4, 2008, John married his loving wife, the former Jane Allen. For over 35 years, John was employed by Bloomsburg University as an electrician, until his retirement in October of 2006. A man of unwavering faith, he was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he sang in the choir. In more recent times he had attended Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Catawissa. John was a 50-year member of Washington Lodge #265 F&AM, also belonging to the Valley of Bloomsburg - Scottish Rite, NMJ, and was a life member of the Bloomsburg Fire Company, with more than 50 years of service to his community. From the age of 18, he had enjoyed serving in various roles within the fire company, including, but not limited to President and Communications Officer. He enjoyed taking trips to the beach, eating seafood, and John loved indulging in a good cup of coffee. His greatest joy, however was spending time with his family and his faithful dog, and ever-present companion, Gabe.
