John J. Krum, age 79, a life-long resident, Bloomsburg, died on Friday, September 21, 2012 at his residence.
John was born on Sunday, January 8, 1933, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Frank and Minnie (Longenberger) Krum. He was a member of the 1951 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School.
Following his education, he served his country with the United States Army in Berlin, Germany during the Korean Conflict. For over 40 years, he was the Co-owner and operator, with his brother, of Krum's Home Beautifiers located on the corner of East and 7th Street in Bloomsburg. He was a lifetime member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg where he served many terms on the Church Council as Property Chairman. In the Church, he served as an usher, communion assistant, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Sunday school for many years. He was a board member of the Rosemont Cemetery Co. He was a member of the American Legion Post #273 and a life-member of the Fireman's Relief Association. He was also an active member with the Meals on Wheels Program in Bloomsburg.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded by a brother, Paul David Krum in July of 2000.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 59 years, Pauline (Hummel) Krum; two children: Denise Van Epps and husband, Timothy, of Bloomsburg; Dennis Krum and wife, Tracy, of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Amanda Fleischer and husband, Peter, of King of Prussia; Alyse McDowell and husband, Joseph, of Carlisle; Jacob J. Krum of Ohio State Univ.; and Zachary P. Krum of Duquesne Univ.; two great-granddaughters: Anna I. and Eva A. Fleischer; a brother: Charles F. Krum and wife, Christine, of Bloomsburg and a sister: Eldortha Grover and husband, John, of Bloomsburg, as well as several nephews and nieces.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, October 4 at 11 a.m. from the St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating. Graveside services will follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. A combined VFW/American Legion Group will provide Military Honors. The Krum family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
The Immediate family will provide flowers and memorial contributions in John's name are suggested to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg.
