John L. "Jack" Ickes, age 77, of Orangeville, died on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2015 a recent resident of the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orangeville.
Jack was born on Friday, November 8, 1937 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Harry W. and Florene K. (Eveland) Ickes. Throughout his younger years, Jack attended the Bloomsburg area schools and graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1955. Jack advanced in his level of education by attending the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College in Bloomsburg with his B.S. degree in 1962 and completing his Masters in 1971. Shortly after graduating from college, Jack married his loving wife, the former Charlotte E. Hopfer also of Bloomsburg on July 21, 1962. For over 37 years, Jack was employed locally by the Millville School District as a History and Geography teacher until his retirement in 1999. During his employment, Jack also served as a past-President of the Millville Educators Association. Jack and his wife were faithful members of the Christ the King Catholic Parish in Benton where he served on multiple parish committees for many years until his health would not allow. He was also a member of the former Elk's Men's Bowling League.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 52 years, Charlotte E. (Hopfer) Ickes, of Orangeville; three daughters: Melissa A. Richter and husband, James, also of Orangeville; Anne Marie Ickes of Camp Hill; and Jennifer L. Ickes and husband, John Albano, of New Orleans, LA; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday morning, June 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Christ the King Catholic Parish, 300 Mendenhall Lane in Benton.
A Mass of Christian burial will also begin on Saturday morning, June 13 at 11 a.m. from the Christ the King Catholic Parish in Benton with Rev. David M. Hereshko, celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Zion Cemetery, Fishing Creek Township. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad Street in Millville is honored to be serving the Ickes family.
