John J. Gelety, husband, father, grandfather, and all-around great friend passed away unexpectedly at his home in Bloomsburg on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the age of 71.

John is survived by Susan, his wife and best friend of 45 years. Continuing his immeasurable legacy is daughter Laura, sons Bob and John, grandchildren Courtney and Colton, and his sister Joanne. Additionally, John was no doubt reunited in the next world with his daughter Amy, brothers Clayton and Don, and parents John and Grace.

He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in August, 1973.

John enjoyed numerous hobbies post-retirement and appreciated the many friendships the local clubs provided; whether flying RC planes or communicating over ham radio.

Among his many lifelong interests in technology and flight, his love of communicating with ham radio operators across the globe as well as flying radio control models were his favorites.

As for a memorial, how can one possibly encapsulate and distill the decades of love he gave his family in only one day? So while no formal service date will be planned, the family will continue to privately share the endless happy stories and memories of his life.
