John E. Andreas, Jr. , age 80, of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday, August 2, 2018, a resident of Geisinger Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville. John was a resident of his home in Bloomsburg for over 53 years.
John was born on Saturday, February 12, 1938 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John E., Sr. and Mary J. (Kline) Andreas. Throughout his younger years, John attended and later graduated from the former Scott Twp. High School in 1956. Following graduation, John faithfully served his country in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1960.
On September 6, 1959, John married his loving wife, Ellen M.(Thorne) Andreas formerly of Boston. For many years, John was employed by Textron and was last employed by Central Columbia School District until his retirement in 2003. John was a life member Bloomsburg Fire Department, Winona Fire Co., No. 3, and Espy Fire Co. He was also a 35 year member Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273. John enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, auto racing, outdoor activities, and doing lawn care.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Ellen M. Andreas; four children: Kathleen Baker and husband, Tom, of Rohrsburg, Kevin Andreas of Rohrsburg, Kristine Andreas of Danville, and Kenneth Andreas and companion, Paula Kaiser, of Bloomsburg, 3 granddaughters: Kaitlin Buehler and husband, Joe, Ashley Andreas, and Kennedy Andreas, a great-granddaughter: Daliah Nelson, and a sister: Barbara Rhodomoyer and husband, Kerry, of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 7, from 5 to 7 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, officiating. Private graveside committal services will be held at the Creveling Cemetery at a later date with a combined American Legion and V.F.W. military services. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Andreas family.
