Joan S. Welliver, age 81, of 227 East 6th St. Bloomsburg, died Sunday, May 23, in the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Orangeville where she was admitted April 28. Joan was born on Tuesday, February 26, 1929 in Bloomsburg a daughter of the late Harry and Sara (Golder) Shaffer. After graduating from the Bloomsburg High School in 1947, Joan attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College where she graduated in 1961. She received a Masters Degree in reading in 1969. For 29 years she taught at the Bloomsburg Memorial School. Joan enjoyed sports, traveling and reading. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Bloomsburg Civic Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was an avid fan of Penn State and Bloomsburg University athletics. She volunteered with the American Red Cross. Survivors include her husband of 60 years: Wayne M. Welliver; daughter: Debbie Fruit and husband, Harry, of Bloomsburg; two granddaughters: Julie Klesh and husband, Steve, and Cathie Fruit both of Bloomsburg; and six grandchildren: Bret Bowman, Karlie Bowman, Devin Stout, Derek Morrison, Dylan Morrison and Kallie Miller. Joan was the last member of her immediate family. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St., with Rev. Jay E. Jones and Lisa Mitchell, pastor of visitation, officiating.
