Joan L.
Martz
May 2, 2026
Joan L. Martz passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Joan was a devoted wife and mother of four who, alongside her husband, Major William H. Martz, raised her family in Japan, the Philippines, and several Air Force bases in the US. Joan was born on May 23, 1934 to Hugh and Julia Kanyok in Duryea, PA. All four of her children survive her: Sara Jo (Harry) Womelsdorf, Bobbi (Douglass) Ridgeway, Earl David (Linda Lee) Martz, Trish (Bob) Snyder.
She leaves behind three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her brother, Earl and sister, Louise passed away before her.
Joan met Bill while attending Bloomsburg State Teachers College. They were married when she graduated in 1955.
Joan loved cats, clouds, and nature. She took pleasure in sewing clothing and knitting, as well as word and number games. She fondly remembered her time as a teacher. She was devoted to her Christian Faith and was an active member of her church, helping wherever she was needed. She also took part in Eastern Star, the Millville Firemen's Carnival, and Millville Civic Club. She had fun playing cards and board games. Most of all, she loved being with people and enjoyed a good laugh.
There will be a viewing at 11 am followed by funeral services at 12 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026 at the Christian Gospel Fellowship Church, 2938 State Route 42, Millville PA 17846, with Pastor Mark Boyer officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Millville Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Martz family.
