Joan M. Hampton, age 80, of Buckhorn, died on Monday evening, October 29, 2012 a resident of Balanced Care at Bloomsburg. Joan lived most of her life in the Bloomsburg area.
Joan was born on Sunday, August 14, 1932 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Walter and Elva Derr Yodock Welch. Throughout her earlier years, she attended the Bloomsburg Area Schools. For many years, Joan was employed by Emenee Shirt Manufacturing in Catawissa and most recently by the Bloomsburg Hospital in the Food Service Dept., until retiring in 1996.
For many years, Joan and her late husband submitted entries together that were judged at the Bloomsburg Fair. Joan will also be remember for her wonderful talent of crocheting, and when she won a total of 34 ribbons for her crocheting pieces entered at the Fair. She loved spending her time playing bingo at local fire companies and also cheering on her favorite sports teams of Penn State, the Phillies, Eagles and the Steelers. Her family will remember her for her wonderful skills of cooking and baking her famous Apple, Peach and Rhubarb pies.
On March 10, 2009, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, the late William R. "Hamp" Hampton. Also preceding her were two siblings: Donna Mensch and Walter G. Yodock.
Survivors include two sons: William E. Hampton, of Bloomsburg; and Brian L. Hampton and wife, Allison, of South Riding, VA; three grandchildren: Conner R. Hampton, Courtney R. Hampton, and Terry Stack; a great-granddaughter: Kyra DeBarr; a niece: Lisa Mensch of Catawissa; two brothers: Dennis and David Welch both of Williamsport and also a sister-in-law: Mary Walburn of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, November 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, November 2, at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Audrey M. Brosious, officiating. Graveside services will follow in the All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg.
