Joan Fritz (Zarr) Derr, age 87, of Millville went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ Sunday May 22, 2016 in the Nazareth Memory Center, Danville where she resided since March 7, 2016. Joan was born on July 29, 1928 in Benton the only child of Fred and Doris (Fritz) Zarr.
Joan was a 1946 graduate of Bloomsburg Area High School and a 1950 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. As a certified k-6 teacher, she taught Art in the Millville and Bloomsburg Area School Districts during the late 1950's and 1960's. Always an artist, she continued to beautify the world around her after retirement, doing so through her love of painting, her knack for hosting and entertaining, and making family gatherings festive and memorable.
Joan attended the Benton Assembly of God Church.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wallace E. Derr.
Survivors include her children, Eve Shellenberger-Moore and husband, Jimmy of Bellefonte and Mark Shellenberger and wife, LuAnn, of Millville; step-sons: Daniel Derr and wife, Elizabeth, of Maryland and David Derr and wife, Rita, of Jerseytown; 17 loving grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Joan was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main and Railroad St., Millville. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with her son, Rev. Mark Shellenberger, officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Jerseytown Cemetery.
