Jesse M. Barfield, age 86, of Bloomsburg, died unexpectedly on Saturday evening, September 20, 2014 at his residence of 43 years.
Jesse was born on Monday, April 23, 1928 in LaGrange, North Carolina, a son of the late Jesse and Betty (Bryant) Barfield. Jesse was also proud of his heritage as descendent of Cherokee Indian. Immediately following his education, Jesse enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country faithful during the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Panama, Jesse served as a Flight Engineer until his time of Honorable Discharge. He returned back to the United States, where he was employed by the former Capital Airways. For over 45 years, Jesse was employed as a Flight Mechanic by United Airways until his retirement in 1994. Jesse loved spending his time at home, working on his house or in the yard, but he also has a very unique gift for animals especially his two cats.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by twenty-four siblings.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 44 years, Norma R. (Sees) Barfield, of Bloomsburg; a son: Cecil Barfield of Virginia; two daughters: Sue Smeltzer and husband, Kevin, of Kinston, NC; and Patricia Barfield; a step-daughter: Connie Campbell and husband, Ronald, of Berwick; and two step-sons: James Smith of Ferndale, MD; and William Smith and wife, Michelle, also of Ferndale, MD; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and also numerous nephews and nieces.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Thursday afternoon, Sept., 25 at 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg. A graveside committal service will immediately follow in the St. James Cemetery, Stillwater. A combined group of American Legion/VFW will provided Military Honors. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Barfield family.
