Obituary

Jeffrey R. "Jeff" Sutton, age 62, of Catawissa passed away on Wednesday morning, May 29, 2024, at his home in Locust Twp. with his loving family by his side. Jeff was a lifelong resident of Catawissa.

He was born on Saturday, September 16, 1961 in Wichita, KS, a son of the late Joseph and Genevieve Edna (Dickson) Yacko. He graduated from Columbia Montour Vo-Tech in 1980. He faithfully served in the United States Army enlisting in 1980 and was honorably discharged in 1985. He expanded his education by graduating from Lackawanna Junior College, Scranton in 1993. On November 10, 2007, Jeff married his loving wife, Bonnie Sutton.

He took great pride in being a police officer for over 25 years serving Catawissa Borough, Hemlock Township and Locust Township. For the past few years, Jeff was employed by Hemlock Township as a Township Manager. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Espy. He was the president, vice president, coach and umpire of RCV Little League for over 20 years and he could also be found after the regular season coaching tournament little league teams for 7+ years. He was a life member with The Valley Chemical Fire Company where he held offices of president, vice president and firefighter. He served as president, vice president, driver and first responder for the former South Side Ambulance Association. He was instrumental in getting the first ever four-wheel drive ambulance in the south end of Columbia County. He dedicated his life to helping others. Jeff loved being outside, mowing his yard and decorating for holidays, spending time with his family and traveling.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was also preceded in death by his father-in-law: Richard DeWald and a niece: Trichelle Grove.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 16 years, Bonnie Sutton of Catawissa, his four children: Nicole Baker and husband Jason of Lehighton, Malisa Sutton of Catawissa, Seth Macklem of Danville, Cameron Macklem and girlfriend Allyson Reese of Catawissa; three granddaughters: Jamyson, Shayla and Haven; three siblings: Louise Grove of Catawissa, Alan Sutton and wife Kathy of Catawissa, Heather Cooper and husband Chad of Sunbury, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg and Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9 St. Luke's Way, Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church with Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia. Military honors will be presented by The Columbia County Honor Guard.
