Jean N. Secrist, age 84, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018, a patient for the past week of the Geisinger Home Health & Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville. Jean was a resident of Espy for many years.
She was born on Sunday, February 11, 1934 in Unityville, a daughter of the late John Alexander and Hanna Evelyn (Temple) Nungesser. Throughout her younger years, Jean attended the Danville area schools, and later graduated from the Danville High School in 1952. For over 20 years, Jean was employed by Bloomsburg Carpet Company until her retirement on June 30, 1999, she previously worked at Magee Carpet Company and the Bloomsburg K-Mart. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy where she served as church secretary many years ago and was Past President of The United Methodist Women. She loved to quilt, bake, play bingo, root for her favorite team the Philadelphia Phillies and play marbles with her friends at Tenny Street.
In addition to her parents, Jean was also preceded by a son, Michael Secrist, eight sisters, Netta Carper, Elizabeth Carper, Mary Wilson-Fritz, Leota Meek, Ruth Fritz, Grace Albertson, Helen Nungesser, Betty Nungesser and two brothers, Harry Nungesser and Roland Delbert Nungesser.
Survivors include her three daughters, Diane Ulrich of Milton, FL, Kathy Moss of Pace, FL, and Betty Secrist of Coal Twp., five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Bertha Smith of Danville and Maxine McCaffrey of Orangeville also her caregiver and nephew, Chris McCaffrey and wife Karen of Bloomsburg and many nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. R. Christian Dunlap, Geisinger Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Secrist family.
