Janet H. (Hess) Rock, age 93, of Bloomsburg, died on Friday morning, July 24, 2015 a patient under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville.
Janet was born on Thursday, May 18, 1922 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late William J. and Jennie F. (Davenport) Hess. Throughout her younger years, she attended the Bloomsburg area schools and graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1940. Janet was employed for over twelve years by the Federal Government as an Executive Secretary of the Selective Service Board in Sunbury. She was also employed by the Columbia County Commissioner's office for over eighteen years. Janet also worked with for her late brother, William "Bill" J. Hess, Jr. owner and operator of Hess's Tavern in Bloomsburg for over 45 years.
Janet was a faithful member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bloomsburg for many years until her health would not allow. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary for the former Bloomsburg Hospital and also a social member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273.
In addition to her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Scatton, who passed on June 27, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her only brother: William J. Hess, Jr. who passed on January 20, 1992. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving is her only nephew: Eric W. Hess and wife, Denise, of Bloomsburg; and their children: Jeremiah and Casey Hess.
In honoring Janet's request, there will be no public services held. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hess family.
